Several Injured as In-Flight Disturbance Hits A Delta Airlines Plane into Sydney, Australia
A number of individuals have been injured when a Delta flight traveling from Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia was hit by rough air on Friday morning.
The flight, numbered 41 "experienced a brief period of turbulence" as it touched down at Sydney Airport, a company official told. A number of the onboard staff sustained injuries.
Emergency medical services said they treated a total of five people, and transferred three to hospital with relatively minor issues that included back pain and migraines. The injured spanned from their 30s up to the 70s.
This marks the newest example of aircraft experiencing atmospheric disturbance, with aviation specialists saying that global warming is a key driver.
There were 245 people and fifteen staff members on the Airbus A350, the representative said, stating that the plane touched down "without further incident" at the airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on the day in question.
Paramedics said they got a call just only 180 seconds before the plane arrived, and ambulances were standing by on the runway.
The reasons turbulence is becoming more common - and potentially more dangerous.
In the previous year, 25 people were hurt when a Delta Airlines flight, flying from Salt Lake City, Utah to Amsterdam, experienced "significant" turbulence just a couple of hours into the lengthy trip, and diverted for an emergency landing.
