Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City recently, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he lost control at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill corner leading to the last turn on to the main straight.
The veteran finished practice in P19, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's car P3, over half a second behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
